However before you all get excited, it\u2019s not an extension to the <em>current <\/em>scheme, but rather what employers will need to consider with regards to staff who are still on furlough. A new section headed \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/claim-for-wages-through-the-coronavirus-job-retention-scheme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">When the government ends the scheme<\/a>\u201d has been added.<\/p>\n<div>In short, the guidance\u00a0under the new section states that <strong>employers will need to make decisions in anticipation of the scheme ending<\/strong>. Namely;<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Whether to bring employees back to work<\/li>\n<li>Terminate their employment on grounds of redundancy<\/li>\n<li>Agree with employees any changes to their terms and conditions of employment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are currently around 1.9 million people still on furlough, many of whom are employed in the travel industry and with the lack of sector specific support, employers in the\u00a0industry will yet again\u00a0face difficult decisions as to what to do for the best with regards to staff.
